The release of mBricks 2.7 is getting close. The plan is to finish implementation by 15th of January and then start testing and stabilizing. A partner release is planned to be shipped in the end of January.
New stuff in mBricks 2.7:
mbricks.net
We are working on finishing the new mbricks.net module. This module is an implementation of the new protocol we have designed together with Norwegian Computing Center (NR). The protocol will have a clearly defined security model and the report from NR will be made available to all partners. NR has done an assessment of the protocol specification based on Abadi and Needham’s 11 principles, see Abadi, M. and Needham, R. (1996) “Prudent engineering practicse for cryptographic
Protocols”. The assessment is that the protocol, as described in the specification, complies with 10 of the principles and does not comply with 1 of the principles. The one principle that is not compliant is concerning aspects of certificate handling which must be handled specific for each application. Details can be discussed with the mBricks team.
The device database
We have done an upgrade of the handling of the device database. It is getting more and more important that all partners start using the device database so that their mBricks applications are optimized for the device they are installed on.
Improved text widget
The text widget is now capable of recognizing links, like “http://”, “https://” and “tel://”. The widget will render these strings as links which can be focused and activated. When activated they are opened in the phone browser or they will trigger a phone call.
It is also possible to set a “mbricks://” which can be used for internal application links.
General
As always we have done some performance enhancements and several bugfixes. We are also looking at the suggested enhancements reported and will try to include some of those in the mBricks 2.7 release.
