mBricks at JavaZone 2008 - Come & Visit us!

mBricks will participate at Javazone, the largest developer conference in Scandinavia organized by the Norwegian Java User’s Group, javaBin, and partners. The Conference, in its 8th edition, is a high-quality, non-commercial conference for developers and other people involved in software development.

mBricks team will be on show presenting mBricks 2.8, the latest release of our mobile platform for application development. The main features in this release are mBricks.net, a message system for handling communication between a client and a server, and mBricks Services, a collection of tools to ensure client application functionality.

We will also show the latest mobile application prototype that Agresso, a leading ERP vendor and mBricks partner, has created with our technology.

Would you like to see examples of Mobile Banking applications? PIM mobile applications? an application to book flight tickets with your mobile? or perhaps an application for classified ads? We can show you what leading companies as BBS, Symfoni Software, Braathens IT and Finn have developed with mBricks platform.

On the speaker podium we will have Henrik Dæhli, Senior Software Engineer at mBricks, presenting “How to create secure Mobile Applications in Java ME”. The talk will take place in the Lab 2, on Wednesday 17th at 09:00. Read more about the presentation here.

Prototyping for Agresso

It’s always interesting to work with the major players, such as the ERP software company Agresso. Their vast footprint (in more than hundred countries) is impressive. I guess companies like that have learnt some lessons on how to grow and develop their business. Maybe one reason why they stay on top is their ability to chase new opportunities. Now, we at mBricks work together with Agresso prototyping mobile solutions.

We started working with them this spring, and during the summer they finished a prototype on a quite simple, yet powerful use-case: A dashboard with KPIs (key performance indicators) for project managers and executives. The user can choose what KPIs to monitor. The prototype shows indicators such as level of invoicing and sales. The dashboard is an application that will run on most mobile phones, like other mBricks based apps.

In fact, I think that’s a very unique selling point for mBricks: You can spend a couple of weeks on prototyping and it will run on hundreds of handsets. As long as you stick to the mBricks framework, prototypes will work as smoothly as finalized applications. This allows you to improve the application by focusing on usability and functional capabilities. Fragmentation and security are taken care of by the framework.

I’m excited by the value this application will give to the users of Agresso. When on the move, they can monitor their business performance and communicate the KPIs to their colleagues. It will be interesting to see how this project is taken further. Stay tuned …
